The Didgeridoo is believed to be the world’s oldest wind instrument, dating back thousands of years. The didgeridoo is used with other instruments such as the bull roarer and bilma (click stick). It is used as an accompaniment to song and dance. It is also used in corroborees (ceremonial dances). The large version of the didgeridoo, called Yurlunggur, is used only in ceremonies. A didgeridoo is traditionally made from one of many species of Eucalyptus branches or saplings. Species of Eucalyptus number in the hundreds, but only a dozen species are used for didjeridoo making. It can take up to a year for the termites to hollow out a branch.
It is important that you consider not only the authenticity of the didgeridoos you buy but also the fact that you are supporting an ancestral way of artisanal production and the souls who make them. By buying Aboriginal Australian didgeridoos you are helping to preserve aboriginal cultures and traditions ! Moreover you will find here didgeridoos painted with religious and spiritual meaning by the Aborigines of Australia.
